The Monessen Amateur Radio Club (MARC) is proud to announce the official adoption of new bylaws that now allow **licensed GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) operators** to become members of our club.
This marks an exciting and progressive step forward for our organization. By welcoming licensed GMRS users into MARC, we are expanding opportunities for collaboration, training, public service, and emergency communications across multiple radio services.
To our knowledge, MARC is among the first amateur radio clubs in Southwestern Pennsylvania to formally adopt bylaws recognizing and including GMRS operators as eligible members. We believe this decision strengthens our mission to promote effective radio communication, community preparedness, and fellowship among all responsible radio operators.
We look forward to building new partnerships, sharing knowledge, and continuing to serve our community together.
For membership information or meeting details, please contact us or attend our next meeting.

Pennsylvania has a new cell phone law, known as "Paul Miller's Law".  Which prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even when stopped at red lights or in traffic. Starting June 6, 2026, violators will face a $50 fine. There is a provision in Section 1, Paragraph 102, Number 4 that exempts a mobile or handheld radio being used by a person with an amateur radio station license issued by the Federal Communications Commission to this law. Please be aware that you could still be stopped by the police. You must carry a copy of your license if you are using your radio.
